Miami Lakes United Methodist Women (UMW) are focused on four areas of service.
First, we are a group who know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ. We pray and study together in our meeting programs and with our sisters during mission studies in our local area and conference activities.
Second, we support each other with child care during our meetings, prayer, encouragement to read the Bible, and participate in local mission projects such as the Miami Rescue Mission for Women and Children and HIS House. It is important that we have fun together and this happens in sharing a meal at our meetings and special events
with funds raised going to a local mission.
The third and fourth areas include social justice and participation in the global ministries of the church. We are women of all ages who choose to join UMW to grow personally and collectively in programing and giving that includes our share giving to the District Mission Pledge as well as using the prayer calendar at our meetings to acquaint ourselves with missionaries around the world. The integrity and dignity for women and children around the world is forefront in the actions of our mission dollars. It also can be felt in the monetary support for our local children to go to UM summer camp.
Our unit may be small in number but we join together with 800,000 other women in the USA, making pennies turn into dollars and lives of women and children around the world safer and more productive for the necessities of life. One can learn leadership as a local unit officer or as a candidate for Women’s Division administering a 17 million dollar budget for missions in this country and around the world.
Your participation is our blessing and our gift to yourself and others.
See us in action!
